Their is a quick scene in the beginning of the movie where the brothers are walking through the village of Dinkelsbuhl (one of the couple of towns where the movie takes place) and they stop in front of a pink cottage on a corner, that is the house that my grandmother was born and raised in! In the first clip on the left side you see a slight heavy-set women in the background bent down tending to flowers and again in the next clip of her walking around the house past the camera that women is my Great Oma!! When I was a child my Grandfather would show me this movie and especially the scenes with Oma because like he always said "its important that you see this, its your family history." (Even though she was just an extra.) So with all that in mind you can see why this movie is important to me and my family. My Grandparents when this movie first came out saw it at the drive-in. The quality was excellent and was very happy to add it to my collection after all these years. Very surprised when I found Classic Movies had it in there archives and could transfer it to DVD. That the tapes were lost in a fire and couldn’t be transferred to DVD. After my vhs player died started looking for it on DVD. Love it and later in life bought a VHS tape of it. Saw this movie when I was very young with my parents and Grand parents in a theater. 5 The wonderful world of the brothers Grimm. From an Italian print that is listed in the opening credits ‘Avventura Nella Fantasia’ with ‘The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm’ below it. This dvd has a wider aspect ratio than what I’ve seen on TCM. This was a fun movie to watch in Cineramawith a 2 minute trailer upon its conclusion. 4 The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm. So very pleased with this product a very good copy and the original trailer is included. Many assumed the DVD was just not available. Posted by Neils Rosenbeck on 8th May 2021 5 The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm. So, go, I bid thee, and inter-library loan. Which means you've all now got a double recommendation. If you haven't seen this, and you're part of this community, I'd recommend it just for the fairy tale shorts. You can sign up to be notified of availability, though, so I guess that's something! The VHS is now available used on, while the DVD appears to be catalogued but isn't available. The only one I could find an exerpt from: These were always my favorite parts of the movie as I was growing up. A happy ending for all!Īlso included within the frame of the Brothers' story are three fairy tales: The Dancing Princess, The Cobbler and the Elves, and The Singing Bone. In the end they see that both are important to the history of their people and work together the rest of their lives writing stuff down. As I recall, Wilhelm is insistent that they finish the autobiographies they've been commissioned, while Jacob is easily diverted by folklore.
The musical tells the story of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, both of whom are determined to be taken seriously as writers. This film, while whimsical, not to mention musical, does at least try to stick to some various historical details. You may recall the 2005 film The Brothers Grimm going by and throwing historic relevancy to the wind (although it had its own charms). This remnant from my childhood came up recently as I was going through the old VHS tapes for the ones that simply had to be updated to a new medium.
